DISNEY WORLD FANTASYLAND EXPANSION UPDATE
Walt Disney World announced at a press event changes to its previously publicized Fantasyland expansion plans.
As has been speculated for some time, the Fantasyland expansion will be less completely “princessy,” and will include a previously unannounced new roller coaster ride, the Seven Dwarves Mine Train Ride. [Read more →]

What’s New at Disney World in 2011?
(This page is one of a series explicating Walt Disney World lingo, abbreviations, and FAQ for first time family visitors to Walt Disney World.)
WHAT’S NEW AT DISNEY WORLD IN 2011?
Disney’s theme parks division is in the middle of a massive multi-billion dollar capital spend.
(The link is to a PDF.)
Unfortunately, not much of this spend will show up as new rides and attractions at Walt Disney World in 2011.
The bulk of what’s new in 2011 will be new Disney cruise ships and major new stuff at Disney California Adventure park at the Disneyland Resort.
What’s new at Disney World in 2011 will largely be the result of tweaks and rehabs.
2012 and later, however, will be a different story…although one whose unfolding plot is still a little hard to predict. [Read more →]

DISNEY’S ART OF ANIMATION RESORT AND LARGE FAMILIES
Walt Disney World announced earlier this year that it will be opening a new value resort in 2012.
(For some concept renditions of the exterior, see this)
The new resort will be called Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
It will be located across Hourglass Lake from Disney’s Pop Century Resort, in land–and partially constructed buildings–that had been designed to be the extension and completion of Pop.
The new resort will have almost 2000 rooms, of which 1120 will be “family suites.” Family suites, pioneered at All-Star Music, will sleep six, most likely in a master bedroom and living room layout.
This is important news for larger families looking for value pricing. [Read more →]

UPDATE ON WALT DISNEY WORLD’S FANTASYLAND EXPANSION PROJECT
Recent news has cast into doubt the Fantasyland expansion announced by Disney last year (and detailed here.)
Jim Hill (of JimHillMedia) first commented on the possibility here.
He noted that the Pixie Hollow development was being delayed, and that everything other than The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure and the Be Our Guest restaurant was being revisited, with the goal being to make the Disney World expansion more appealing to guests of all ages.

iDisney: The NextGen Project at Walt Disney World, continued
THE TICKETLESS, PRE-SCHEDULED FASTPASS
I expect that the core of NextGen will be
- Addition of many more rides to the “FASTPASS“–that is, pre-scheduling–concept
- Pre-scheduling of ride visits months in advance for Walt Disney World hotel guests–just like a restaurant reservation
- Different levels of access to this pre-scheduling, depending on the price of one’s hotel room
- Increases in Walt Disney World resort hotel prices, as the way of capturing the value of these new options
- The use of a Disney-provided mobile device to that will enable Disney resort hotel guests to prove their ride reservations, get offers– including offers of additional FASTPASSES–and get hints on where to go next, in real time
