November 2017 at Walt Disney World

By Dave Shute

OVERVIEW: NOVEMBER 2017 AT DISNEY WORLD

This page reviews November 2017 Walt Disney World crowds, prices, deals and discounts, weather, and operating hours; adds a few other notes; and ends with week by week summaries.

Very early, mid and late November are some of the best times of the year to visit Disney World, with cooler weather, low crowds, low prices, and fun special events.

Other parts of the month are not so good. Jersey Week see moderate crowds. Thanksgiving week, with high crowds and higher prices than the rest of the month, should be avoided.

NOVEMBER 2017 CROWDS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

November has high, low and moderate crowd weeks.

On a crowd scale of 1-11, the week beginning 10/28 has a crowd rating of 3/ low, the week beginning 11/4 6/moderate, the week beginning 11/11 3/low, the week beginning 11/18 8/high-minus, and the week beginning 11/25 3/low.

However, because of the Christmas Party and the Food and Wine Festival, you can face higher much waits if you go to the parks on the wrong days.  See this for how to avoid these crowds.

See this for more on 2017 crowds at Disney World.

NOVEMBER 2017 PRICES AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Prices begin the month at the values 5-10% higher than the lowest of the year. On 11/18 they increase to 20-40% higher for Thanksgiving week, and drop back to 5-10% higher on 11/25.

Prices at the moderates begin the month 10-15% higher than than the lowest of the year. On 11/18 they increase to 20-25% higher for Thanksgiving week, and drop back to 10-15% higher on 11/25.

Prices at the deluxes begin the month at 5-15% higher than the lowest of the year. On 11/3 they increase to 15-20% higher, go back to 5-15% higher on 11/13, increase to 20-25% higher for Thanksgiving week on 11/21, and return to 5-15% higher on 11/25.

NOVEMBER 2017 SPECIAL EVENTS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival continues until November 13.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party begins November 8 and continues on select nights throughout November.

NOVEMBER 2017 OPERATING HOURS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Park operating hours vary by the day, and sometimes change without notice. It is rare for hours to be shorter than Disney has publicized, but Disney may lengthen them in response to unanticipated crowds.

The first draft of hours for the month is here, but expect this to be updated and filled out more.

The best way to keep up with operating hours is to check Disney’s official calendars, usually available six months in advance. Look especially for a major update to hours a couple of weeks before the month starts.

When about does Disney publish the Candlelight Processional dates?

2 Dave { 04.28.17 at 12:24 pm }

The dates will be November 24 through December 30, I expect. Official word may not be out until the end of June, which is when it came out in 2016.

Hi Dave, what type of itinerary would you suggest to follow for a stay from Sunday, November 19 – Wednesday, November 29, 2017 (No park tickets on arrival and departure day and one day off during stay (8-day park tickets with hopper))? Also would like to attend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on Sunday,November 26th or Tuesday,November 28th which do you suggest to attend? Thanks Melissa

4 Dave { 05.12.17 at 10:08 am }

Hi Melissa, I don’t have an itinerary that works over those dates. You can adapt the high crowd itinerary for the first part, and the basic December itinerary for the second part. Note that on my itineraries, days are days–Monday is Monday, not “Day 3”. There’s not much difference in the two party dates, but Tuesday is likely to be a slightly better choice.

I’m trying to decide whether I should vacation at Disney in November from 11/13 thru 11/17 or 11/27 thru 12/1.
We’d be traveling there the weekends before and after each week and going the parks during the weeks listed.
The less crowds the better.
11/13 being Veterans day and wine fest still going on at Epcot has me worried.
But traveling to Orlando post Thanksgiving day weekend seems like it may be a bit of a pain?
Anything in particular that should definitely favor one week over the other?

6 Dave { 05.22.17 at 3:15 pm }

Steve, Veteran’s Day won’t be an issue–most schools don’t have if off, and those that do will largely celebrate it Friday the 10th. If you note this, there’s not much else to distinguish the two weeks other than Disney’s Christmas stuff, which is not fully in place until 11/24. If you are driving, you might well wish to avoid the weekend after Thanksgiving…

7 Steve { 05.23.17 at 9:38 pm }

Is the Wine & Food fest at Epcot on 11/13 anything to be concerned about?

8 Dave { 05.24.17 at 8:57 am }

Steve, the evening will be crowded in World Showcase, as it will be for the couple of months before

9 Kiley { 05.30.17 at 11:05 pm }

My husband and I will be traveling to Disney with our 2.5 y/o and 7 month-old on 11/24-11/30. I would have preferred to arrive on Saturday but I couldn’t make that work with our airline reward miles. We will have 5 park days, 11/25-11/29. What parks do you recommend for each day based on crowds, park hours, etc. but also considering my kids’ ages? Based on the what I’ve read on your website so far, it sounds like MK on Sunday and Tuesday would be best since the park has an early closing time on those days? I’m thinking we may want 2.5-3 days at MK? Would a 1/2 day at Epcot be sufficient? I’m worried about crowds on 11/25, our first day! How do we best handle that? Thanks so much!

10 Dave { 05.31.17 at 10:34 am }

Hi Kiley, kids that age could spend their entire trip at MK. The next priorities would be half days at AK and HS, and last a half day at Epcot.

This will be OK 11/25, as many folk will be traveling that day.

11/25 avoid AK and MK
11/26 avoid HS
11/27 avoid MK
11/28 avoid Epcot
11/29 avoid AK and MK

11 Kiley { 06.01.17 at 9:55 pm }

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply. I agree that we could easily spend our entire trip at MK, so I’m concerned that three out of the 5 days of our stay you recommend to “avoid MK.” Are these dates not an ideal time for us to visit Disney? We have not booked our flight and could push our trip back to early 2018, possibly April or May. We want a good experience for our first family trip!

12 Beth { 06.02.17 at 12:31 pm }

Hi, Dave. Awesome info, as always! I’m wondering what you recommend in our case. We are not first time visitors (been several times, including first few weeks of June which are very busy) and are traveling with a larger group. Though I would love to go the the week before or after Thanksgiving, my niece performs in the Parade of Bands on Thanksgiving Day and I would love to see that.
We are considering two scenarios: 1) head into DW mid-week (Thanksgiving might be our first day in the parks, mainly to see her) and stay through part of the following week after, or 2) head in the weekend before, which would put us there for the entire week of Thanksgiving.
In the second scenario, wondering what you think crowds might be Sun-Tues -terrible? Since we aren’t first-timers, and have been there in summer, do you think that week would be comparable?
Thanks for your help!

13 Dave { 06.04.17 at 11:45 am }

Kiley, during the party season (see this) MK closes early 3-4 nights a week, making the other days wildly crowded. You can certainly succeed on these other crowded non-party days with a good plan, but the party days are much less crowded.

14 Dave { 06.04.17 at 11:47 am }

Beth, returning visitors used to crowds (and FastPass+) can be quite successful Sun-Tues Thanksgiving week! The period after Thx will be much better, though…

15 Nicole { 06.10.17 at 8:55 pm }

Hello Davery,
My family booked POF Nover 30-Dec 5. Why are those blackout dates if ths Thanksgiving holiday finished? Also, do you think we would benefit frim any deals during that time frame. Any advice for parks etc during those dates. Family of nine with children ranging from 2 to 16. Thank you in advance.

16 Nicole { 06.10.17 at 8:56 pm }

Dave*

17 Dave { 06.11.17 at 12:06 pm }

Nicole, the period after Thanksgiving is very popular with frequent visitors, so Disney does not need any free dining deals then to keep its hotels full. This has no impact in crowds, as its hotels are always 85-90% full, discount or not.

A room rate deal for then should come out this summer.

My suggested approach to the parks those dates–won’t quite work for you, but gives you an overview–is here.

18 cristina { 06.27.17 at 6:18 pm }

We are headed to Disney world nov. 25-29. Which park would you suggest for our first day?

19 Dave { 06.28.17 at 6:11 am }

Cristina, Epcot and HS will be least busy the 25th.

20 Carolyn { 06.29.17 at 7:35 pm }

Trying to figure out which parks to hit the Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving. Will the crowds already be in full force then? We already have our MK days for earlier in the trip to avoid crowds but struggling with the weekend plans. Thanks!!

21 Dave { 06.30.17 at 8:46 am }

Carolyn, the crowds will pick up on Sunday, and get heavier as the week goes on. Saturday I’d do HS or Epcot, and Sunday AK or Epcot.

22 Carolyn { 06.30.17 at 2:19 pm }

Thanks Dave!

23 Holly { 07.08.17 at 12:25 am }

We are booking our Disney Vacation the week after Thanksgiving. I was surprised at the lack of options for our resort stay. Our options were CBR or Boardwalk. We went before in April and had several more options among the moderate and economy resorts. It makes me wonder that the week after Thanksgiving will be busy?

24 Dave { 07.08.17 at 11:40 am }

Holly, because the Disney hotels run at 85-90% capacity year round, they never substitute for a crowd calendar–it’s bookings at non-Disney hotels that drive crowds. Your period because of its low crowds, reasonable (for Disney) prices, and Christmas shows is particularly popular with savvy WDW visitors–who are also more likely to stay in a Disney resort–and with DVC owners, who only stay in WDW resorts. Moreover, it’s available for free dining, which also drives up occupancy.

So, as happens every year, it can be hard to find a room then especially if you have a longer stay and or a stay that includes Thursday-Sunday. One way to try (if you have a longer stay) is to try to combine two shorter stays.

25 Lorena { 07.21.17 at 2:49 am }

Hi Dave,

We are visiting from November 1 – 10, staying at AKL. Our park days for Disney are from Sunday November 5 – Thursday November 9. We have the following schedule:

Sunday Nov 5 – Hollywood Studios
Monday Nov 6 – Magic Kingdom
Tuesday Nov 7- Animal Kingdom
Wednesday Nov 8 – Epcot
Thursday Nov 9 – Either MK or AK

Could I do better on this schedule.
Sincerely appreciate your help Dave.
Thanks

26 Dave { 07.21.17 at 8:30 am }

Lorena, Sunday may be busy at HS, so I would swap it and Tuesday.

27 Helen { 07.22.17 at 6:55 pm }

Hi Dave,

Pretty incredible guide you\’ve put together! Would love your advice on structuring our 11/1-11/6 trip. We are rope-droppers who prefer a mid-afternoon break at our resort, so we usually do one park in the am, break, return in pm to same/different park. (Will have park hoppers.) One adult, one 8 year old. Which park would you visit when?

Many thanks!!

28 Dave { 07.23.17 at 9:24 am }

Helen, are you eligible for EMH? And if so, are you willing to do morning EMH, or is it too early for you?

29 Helen { 07.23.17 at 11:28 pm }

Yes, we are eligible for EMH, and yes, we are willing to use them.

30 Dave { 07.25.17 at 6:52 am }

Helen, then I’d suggest doing morning EMH then targeting a less busy park for your FastPass+ for when you come back.

Your dates, that works out like this
11/1 EMH MK. Return–any
11/2 EMH: Epcot. Return: any
11/3 EMH: HS. Return: any but Epcot
11/4 EMH: AK. Return: HS
11/5 EMH: HS. Return: any
11/6 EMH: AK. Return: any

31 Helen { 07.25.17 at 9:40 am }

Great! Thank you!

32 Kelly { 08.01.17 at 2:01 pm }

We will be arriving November 4-11. It will be 5 adults and 2 children, ages 1 and 4. The itinerary I think I have decided on is:

Saturday, 11/4 – hotel
Sunday, 11/5 – Animal Kingdom
Monday, 11/6 – hotel
Tuesday, 11/7 – Hollywood Studios
Wednesday, 11/8 – Magic Kingdom
Thursday, 11/9 – hotel/Mickey’s Christmas in the evening
Friday, 11/10 – Epcot – the little ones will not be going to Epcot. Only 3 adults will.
Saturday, 11/11 – hotel/home

I’m hoping this leaves enough rest/down time for the two little ones in between parks/events. Does this look like a good itinerary?

Right now we are booked to stay at All-Star Sports, but I was hoping for Art of Animation. Any chance you think those rooms will open up once the time gets closer? Would it be beneficial to call and see if anything is open?

33 Dave { 08.02.17 at 7:34 am }

Hi Kelly, Wednesday might be wild at MK, so you might want to swap it and Tuesday. Otherwise this looks fine! Packages have to be paid up by 30 days before, and the last cancel date without penalty for room-only visits is 5 days before, so you might re-check for AofA at those two windows before your arrival date, as they are the most common times for cancellations.

34 Jennifer { 08.24.17 at 10:15 pm }

Hello,

I’m going down on 11/27-12/5. Can you help me map out what days to do which parks to avoid as many crowds as possible? We’re also doing the Xmas party on 11/28, staying on site and have parkhoppers. I also subscribe to touring plans but I’m not sure about their reliability,

Also, my boyfriend is hinting at this is an engagement trip for us!!!!!

Jenn

35 Dave { 08.27.17 at 11:54 am }

Cool, Jennifer!!!

11/27 avoid MK
11/28 avoid Epcot
11/29 avoid MK and AK
11/30 avoid Epcot
12/1 should be fine in all parks
12/2 avoid MK and AK
12/3 avoid HS
12/4 avoid MK and AK
12/5 avoid Epcot

36 Mike { 08.30.17 at 12:08 am }

Hi Dave,
We are taking our first family trip to Disney with 3 little one ages 7, 5, and 23 months from Nov.1 to the 7th with 5 day park passes. Can you tell me what you think of this itinerary and whether I should switch any if the parks:
Nov.1 arrival/hotel day at AoA
Nov.2 Mk
Nov.3 AK
Nov.4 HS
Nov.5 Epcot
Nov.6 Mk
Nov.7 hotel day/departure

Also, I have heard there is quiet a bit of construction at HS and I’m really not sure if there is enough to do for my little ones…would you recommend skipping this park and spending a 3 days at MK or a 2nd day at Epcot or AK or is it still worth the visit. Thank you in advance!

37 Dave { 08.30.17 at 9:37 am }

Hi Mike, this looks fine to me. There’s plenty at HS for the 7 year old, and not remotely enuf at Epcot for the younger ones, so I would not swap HS for Epcot. HS for a third MK day is a bit tougher, and frankly you could make that call after you spend your first day at MK.

38 Chris { 09.06.17 at 6:45 pm }

Hi Dave.
We will be in Orlando from the 14 November to 23 November. My little girl is nearly 3 but only 100cm. Which would be the best parks for her?

Thanks
Chris

39 Dave { 09.08.17 at 9:28 am }

Chris, at that age you could go entirely to Magic Kingdom. A half day at each of the other parks would likely be the most you’d want to spend at them.
