Disney World 2019 Resort Price Seasons

By Dave Shute

2019 RESORT PRICE SEASONS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

The material below shows resort price seasons at Walt Disney World at different times of the year in 2019Resort prices can be almost twice as high during some periods as they are at others. (For 2020 price seasons, see this.)

The text part is based on “price seasons,” a grouping tool Disney World no longer makes public, but which can be identified analytically. Disney charges based on the price of the actual nights, so if your visit straddles price seasons, you’ll pay the prices of each price season.

The charts average prices over the next seven nights, by arrival date.  This eliminates what would be otherwise be incomprehensible bumpiness from Thursday/Sunday and Friday/Saturday upcharges. For exact prices by night by room type by date, see MouseSavers.com here.

My comparisons are to prices that are “the lowest of the year,” the value season.   By this I mean the average nightly price of the lowest-priced seven night period during the value season. I use seven night comparisons because there’s as many as three different prices during a seven night period in a price season, but they follow a weekly pattern.

For longer seasons, my “x% higher” compares average prices over seven nights of that season. For shorter seasons (for example, the many three day weekend upcharges)  I compare the exact short-season prices to the seven-day prices.In the material below, “X% Higher” means compared to the lowest prices of the year.

Marathon weekend is January 9-13, instead of the typical first weekend in January. How do you think this will change your current projections? Might January 1-6 be cheaper?

2 Dave { 04.20.18 at 6:58 am }

Todd, yes, prices will drop from “moderate” to “moderate-” or “low+” after I fix this.

We are planning a trip the second week of July to WDW, would you consider this peak season pricing wise as far as hotels are concerned? I do anticipate high volume of crowds but my husband is a teacher so we’re only able to go in the summer and I’d like to avoid the strongest part of Hurricane season if possible.

Nicole, at the values, yes; at the deluxes and moderates, no.

As always, thanks for this amazing breakdown of pricing!!!

Have you heard of any military dining plan sales yet for 2019?

7 Dave { 07.01.18 at 10:01 am }

Kathie, I’ve never heard of military dining plan sales. There have been the past few years military discount tickets, and military deals on DIsney rooms. Nothing is out yet on those for 2019.

I’m looking to book the week of April 14, could make it a few days prior as well. What is the best time to go and which hotel would be best? We stayed at pop may 2017 and was stuck in old room but now would it be better to stay at pop renovated room vs AOA little mermaid Room? Thanks

9 Dave { 07.15.18 at 11:51 am }

Katie, assuming you are thinking 2019, that is a wildly crowded and wildly expensive week. See this for better options–including the week before!

Hello,

I am thinking of buying my first place to have as a rental in the Disney area. Can I use these numbers as a guide? I want to make sure I am buying a place that will be competitive with the huge hotel industry. Of course I will have to offer something very nice or very cheap.

11 Dave { 07.16.18 at 9:59 am }

Shane, the honest answer is that I don’t know. Hotels are good substitutes for each other, and compete in the leisure/business/conventions/temporary stay markets in different ways depending on amenities and location. This is why the deluxes have different price seasons and price levels than the values and moderates, especially from July on, and why the moderates show less variation across the year than the values. How this translates to rental homes, which is yet another different market, is impossible for me to say.

We are thinking about a WDW vacation, April 1-6, 2019, staying at Port Orleans French Quarter, traveling with a 7 year old. What are your thoughts on dates and resort?

14 Dave { 07.27.18 at 12:31 pm }

Kristine, I have that forecast as a high crowd week in 2019, so can’t recommend it. My review of French Quarter begins here.

15 Al { 08.09.18 at 11:34 am }

My wife and I are planning a trip to Disney World the first week of Feb (2/3 – 2/9) and plan on staying at Port Orleans – Riverside. Any comments/suggestions regarding that week and resort? Thanks…

16 Dave { 08.09.18 at 1:14 pm }

Hi Al, Disney’s calendar for then is not fully out yet, so ping me back in four or five days? In the meantime, see this for Riverside.

Excellent information – Thank you so much for your effort to compilate this – getting an annual pass upgrade during our upcoming Sept 2018 visit (big family reunion in late Aug 2019 so the pass was the best way to go) and was just looking at January dates to return – great to know our best day to come back, Jan 21th is exactly aligned with room rate reductions! Travelling from Canada, we need those discounts to finance the rest of the trip to Orlando!

18 Dave { 08.27.18 at 7:36 am }

Great Jennifer! Also keep your eye out for general public discounts, and annual passholder discounts, that might reduce the room rate even more.

19 Scott Miller { 09.15.18 at 7:20 am }

Hi. Thanks for the information. We are currently planning our late year Disney trip for 2019 and are hoping to avoid Star Wars Land’s opening and the crowds it may entail. Has the resort pricing added any insight to when Disney may be looking to open the new land? We are considering mid November (week before Thanksgiving and the first two weeks of December. Thank you!

20 Dave { 09.16.18 at 12:17 pm }

Scott, no it did not. The later in 2019 you book for, the higher the odds you will run into the opening.

21 Angie { 12.02.18 at 12:23 pm }

Hi we are a couple, no kids trying to plan a 2019 WDW trip to connect with a cruise if possible. Best date suggestions please and thank you in advance!

22 Barb Defalco { 12.12.18 at 8:01 am }

23 Dave { 12.13.18 at 7:37 am }

Barb, the cheapest time in 2019 when the full xmas program is in place will begin 11/30.

24 Diane Hartley { 01.02.19 at 4:05 pm }

Hi Dave, my husband and I are wanting to plan a first WDW trip, we are 68 and 71yrs young. Any suggestions on senior discounts, best place to stay….etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

25 Dave { 01.03.19 at 7:12 am }

Hi Diane, millions of seniors have a blast at WDW every year. There are no material senior discounts, but if you folk have any US Military history (veteran and/or career retired) there are a couple of options there. Let me know.

Not knowing any specifics about you, but thinking of my parents at that age, there are a couple of points to keep in mind–Disney World takes a lot of walking and standing, in weather that can be oppressively hot and humid, in crowds that even during “low” periods can be astonishing and quite noisy.

Let me know if any of these might be an issue, or if you have other health issues–especially heart or joint/back issues.

Beyond that you have two ways to learn more: reading more on this site (start either on the home page or on the left sidebar), or getting my book–the best-reviewed Disney World guide book on Amazon.

26 christina Wyman { 04.19.19 at 3:45 pm }

We are coming 11/4-11/11 2019 will you expect to see any packages that will drop our price before then?

27 Dave { 04.20.19 at 10:41 am }

Hi Christina, the partial opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on 8/29 has made many skeptical that we will see many discounts after September. My guess is that a room rate discount is quite possible for some November dates, with so-so discounts and limited availability, but the safest thing is to plan on nothing.
