Lockers at the Walt Disney World Theme Parks
(This page is one of a series explicating Walt Disney World lingo, abbreviations, and FAQ for first time family visitors to Walt Disney World.)
CAN YOU FIT A STANDARD CARRY-ON BAG INTO A LOCKER AT DISNEY WORLD’S THEME PARKS?
My itineraries note the option of renting lockers at the Walt Disney World theme parks at several points—e.g. for stuff you mean to carry on to your flight on the last day of trip, and for dry clothes if you are planning to ride Kali River Rapids.
I had an email about whether these lockers are big enough for standard-sized carry on rolling bags.
The answer is a firm maybe. Some lockers will fit a standard bag…but they might be sold out.

Pool Closure at Disney’s Pop Century Resort
This site recommends that first time family visitors stay in Disney’s Polynesian Resort if they can afford it, or at Disney’s Pop Century Resort if they are on a tight budget.
He had heard that Pop Century’s main pool, the Hippy Dippy Pool, would be closed for rehab from mid-February to mid-March.
He wondered if I thought he should cancel and book another value resorts.
I said no–Pop has three large pools, and will still have two open during the refurb. (See the image.)
These pools may be more crowded than usual, but not enough to require changing reservations.
If a family wants to change reservations anyway, I rank the other three value resorts in this order:

Getting to Harry Potter from Walt Disney World
(This page is one of a series explicating Walt Disney World lingo, abbreviations, and FAQ for first time family visitors to Walt Disney World.)
GETTING FROM YOUR WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT HOTEL TO THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER
I recently had a comment from Dave on this page:
“How long from Disney resorts to Universal, and what’s the cheapest way to get back and forth?”
I told him that it takes 20-50 minutes, depending on which resort and on I-4 traffic, and said that I’d find out about the cheapest way and post on it.
Here’s the post! [Read more →]

Mail and Comments: The Basic Walt Disney World Itinerary
The very same day I noted here that I can’t tell from my stats alone whether or not this site is helping visitors to Walt Disney World, Brandon posted the following comment on this page:
Just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your website and how invaluable the information was to me on my recent (Dec ’10) trip to WDW.
I have been to Disney every year for almost 20 years and have always done it a certain way.
Your suggestions on how to plan a Christmas time experience were eye-opening.
After a flawless vacation with 2 under the age of 3, I will be “doing it your way” from now on in December. Many thanks!
Brandon is referring to the Basic Itinerary.
The Basic Itinerary is the heart of this site.
It provides the daily guidance for the week that the site recommends first time family visitors go to Walt Disney World.
If a family follows the Basic Itinerary, then they will have made great choices on when to go, how long to stay, where to eat, and what to do when.
What a nice Christmas present for Brandon to advocate that it works.

Mail and Comments: Where to Propose at Walt Disney World
POPPING THE QUESTION AT WALT DISNEY WORLD
Dee recently asked (via a comment on this page):
“I am thinking about taking my girlfriend to Disney World and proposing to her there. Any suggestions where?”
OK, I know that this is both off the topic of this site, and outside my expertise.
But I do wander off topic every now and then.
And I know that some frequent readers of this site will have great suggestions!

Mail and Comments: Finding Current Walt Disney World Discounts
DISNEY WORLD DISCOUNTS…FOR TIME TRAVELERS
Bob recently commented on the post New Walt Disney World Discount Plan is Out as follows:
“I haven’t been able to find these discounts on the WDW website or any other WDW-related travel sites. Can you provide a link?”
Bo couldn’t find these discounts because the post he was looking at referred to deals that expired in early 2010.
Although these “use by” dates were noted on the page, they weren’t in the title, in the headers, or in bold.
Moreover, I’ve got many more pages like it about now-expired deals, some of which are even more unclear about the dates they expired.
What I’ve done with all such expired discount pages I could find is to do permanent redirects (301s, for those of you into the technical side) on them to my main Walt Disney World discount page here. [Read more →]
