WORSE WEEKS
The remaining weeks are not recommended—but still presented in order:
(To pick weeks based on your own criteria, see the 2010 Week Picker App.)
Seventeen and 18 are about the same: higher crowds than 16, but similar prices
17: 4/10
18: 3/20
Nineteen to 26 are similar: compared to weeks 17-18, lower crowds and lower prices, but peak hurricane season.
19: 9/25
20: 9/11
21: 9/18
22: 10/2
23: 8/28
24: 10/4
25: 8/21
26: 8/14
The next two are better than the peak weeks which follow them on the list
27: 10/30 Crowded because of “Jersey Week”—teacher meetings in New Jersey, leading to a massive temporary immigration of New Jersey families to Orlando.
28: 5/22 Much more crowded than 19-26
WEEKS TO AVOID
29-39: All of June, July and early August (massive crowds). June is slightly better than July. Week including July 4th is worst. Prices go down in Deluxes starting in mid-July
40: 11/20 Thanksgiving
41: 4/3 Easter
42: 3/27 Easter
43: 12/18 Christmas
44: 12/25 New Years
45-52: All of January and February. While prices and crowds are low–prices go up in mid-February–this is the peak time for ride closures.
If this may be your only family visit, why go when you know some of the best of Disney World will be closed?
If you must go during this period, avoid the Martin Luther King and President’s Day holidays.

How is it there 1/14 thru 1/19? Its Martrin Luther King weekend and it seems to be the only time we can go. What do you think? Thanks for your input….Donna
Hey Donna, based on the past, the 14th and 15th should be fine, the weekend will be busy, and things will slow down again on the 19th. Try to see the Magic Kingdom before the weekend. Have a great trip!! Dave
We are planning a 3 day visit. Feb 10th thru the 12th. How are the crowds and do you have a list of ride closures during that time? We will be bringing our 5 year old, do you think Epcot is for kids of that age?
Thanks, Dave
Dave–midweek crowds in early February should be low.
The best way to keep up to date on ride closures is to check Disney’s calendars. You can find links to them in the middle of this page, in the “BASICS….” section.
Re Epcot for five year olds, on this page you’ll note that there’s not a lot at Epcot that falls into the “best-loved” category for pre-schoolers…
How about MAY 22-29TH?
Marci–ranked 28th.
Hello I am going to Disney world on the 15th of august to the 21. I was wondering what you thought of these dates. Email me back asap : ) thank you
Ranked 25th. See also http://yourfirstvisit.net/2010/02/07/august-2010-at-walt-disney-world/
Dear Dave,
We will be in Disneyworld from August 21st till the 24th (2010).. Since Florida schools are back in session and many College students are returning to school, What crowd levels should I anticipate?
Andy–it will be quite uncrowded, as kids all over the country will be back in school!!
Looking to go to Disney for New Year’s Dec. 30, 2010 – Jan 2, 2011 with my husband and daughters (aged 19 and 21). Which park do you think will be best for New Year`s Eve and which hotel do you suggest staying at
Thank -you
Lauren–see the links on the left side for “Where to Stay,” and this page for New Years Eve: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2010/08/03/new-years-eve-2010-at-walt-disney-world/
However, given how crowded the parks will be during your visit, if you can afford, and if they have any rooms left, it I’d advise one of the Epcot resorts–the Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan, or Dolphin–as from these you can walk to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. This helps you manage the risk of park closures the best…
How about Dec 10-18 2010?
Steve–see the first page of the 2010 weeks rankings here: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-family-trip/when-to-go/next-best-dates/2010-weeks-to-visit-ranked-in-order/
Short answer–that’s a GREAT week–I rank it number 3…
Will be visiting Disney Dec 20 – 27. What parks would be the best to visit either Christmas Eve, Christmas day for crowds and Christmas related events at the parks. ie fireworks, parades. or do you suggest not going near the parks on those two days.
Lee–all parks will be mobbed. The difference is in likeliness to close to new visitors. Magic Kingdom is the most likely to close, and Epcot is the least likely.
The Christmas-related events happen all season long, so you won’t miss much if you take Christmas Day itself off–or just go to MK for a early-morning visit…
Let me know where you are staying, and I may be able to be more helpful…
I’m giving my daughter’s family Fl Resident annual passes for WDW as Christmas gifts. We’d like to visit the week between Christmas & New Year’s 12/26-12/30 while there’s no school. Is this smart or are all of the parks really mobbed? Any tips? Happy Holidays!
Linda–that is the most crowded period of any year, and I expect it to be even more crowded than usual this year, since the holidays are bookends of a single week.
See this page on park closings: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2010/11/30/park-closings-at-walt-disney-world/
Note also that some FL passes don’t provide 365 days a year access.
If yuo are not staying at A WDW resort hotel, then the trick is to avoid parks with morning extra magic hours, and for the parks you do go to, to arrive in line for entry 45-60 minutes before they open.
My husband suprized me with a trip to Disney for Christmas. I just realized that the half marathon is on the weekend we will be there how much more crowded is it?
Paula, you will be fine. Not enough extra people show up for the half-marathon to make a big difference in the crowds!!
