Hi Dave, we plan on going back to WDW during this week of 2019, staying at YC and with Hoppers & DDP (free). Trying to plan ~1.5 days at epcot, with 2 nights and 1 morning to rope drop. As of now, the plan is to rope drop during the EMH on Thursday – which is likely the first day of F&W Fest. Additionally, our last night at EP would be the next night. Do you think the F&W Fest will draw such crowds that we should just avoid it? (for contrast, in 2018 w/o hopper we just did Epcot on that Wednesday and enjoy insanely low crowds). Any thoughts?
Hey Eric, I am checking with co-author Josh, since he attends first day every year to do his amazing reviews! Will let you know when I hear back from him.
Eric, here’s what Josh (my co-author, of easyWDW.com) says: “No, the first day of Food and Wine is not typically swamped but it will get busier in the evening.” I have to note for the record that no one today knows when F&W will actually start, nor if free dining will be available then!
Thanks for reaching out to him, Dave. Sounds like I should be ok for the AM EMH. Thank you also for clarifying that about start date. WDW tends to be pretty consistent with this kind of stuff (such as MNSSHP & MVMCP) etc. So I’d just rather anticipate now.
Last, we got free dining via the bounceback offer from our last trip (hence the mandatory hopper). Honestly I’d prefer just a solid discount on hotel instead because I (thanks to you and Josh) can plan very well a full day at 1 park, and the DDP is not entirely worth it. Net Net it’s still better than full price!
Eric, I can’t agree about the consistency–for August at least–as having the Halloween Party and F&W start in August are both new things. The bounceback is cool, but it’s likely there will be a room only deal out for those dates…
Thanks Dave. Duly noted about Aug start dates. I know MNSSHP trended earlier but I thought (incorrectly) that the F&WF was more consistent. Will def keep an eye out for late summer deals as well. Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays, Eric!! FWIW, Disney World is wildly consistent and predictable…until it isn’t!
