August 2020 at Walt Disney World

WHAT IS AUGUST LIKE AT DISNEY WORLD?

There are no great times for first-timers who may never return to visit in August. Kids start going back to school in August, so crowds (and most prices) go down later in the month–but that’s also when the peak of the hurricane season kicks off.

Hotel prices begin the month low at the deluxes and stay low all month long. Prices begin the month OK at the moderates, and high at the values. Values prices drop to lower levels 8/9 and on 8/23 prices drop to among the lowest of the year at the values. Moderate prices also change these dates, but stay within the general band of 10-25% higher than the lowest of the year.

Ticket prices are low in the second half of the month.

AUGUST 2020 CROWDS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

On a crowd scale of 1-11, the first two weeks of the month–beginning 7/25 and 8/1/2020–have crowd rankings of 7/moderate+. Each following week drops a point in crowd levels, with the week of 8/22 hitting the lowest level of the month with a crowd ranking of 4/low+.

Summer crowds have been down the past few years.  I expect them to be higher in 2020, with three new rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and likely the first new major ride opening as part of Epcot’s re-imagining all open by or during the summer.

See this for more on 2020 crowds at Disney World.

AUGUST 2020 RESORT HOTEL PRICES AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

August resort hotel prices begin the month 30-40% higher than the lowest of the year at the values, 15-20% higher at the moderates, and 5-10% higher at the deluxes.

  • At the values, they drop to 20-30% higher than the lowest of the year on August 9, and drop to 10-15% higher than the lowest of the year on August 23
  • At the moderates, they shift to 15-25% higher than the lowest of the year on August 9, and drop to 10- 20% higher than the lowest of the year on August 23
  • At the deluxes, they drop to the lowest level of the year on August 21.

See this for more on 2020 resort hotel prices at Walt Disney World.

AUGUST 2020 TICKET PRICES AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

August 2020 Disney World ticket prices begin the month at a mix of higher and average levels. The second half of the month sees low ticket prices for most ticket lengths and dates.

DISNEY WORLD SPECIAL EVENTS IN AUGUST 2020

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will kick off  on August 13. Other August dates are August 18, 21, 25 and 28.

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival will likely kick off August 27 or 28.

AUGUST 2020 OPERATING HOURS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Park operating hours vary by the day, and sometimes change without notice. It is rare for hours to be shorter than Disney has publicized, but Disney may lengthen them in response to unanticipated crowds.

The best way to keep up with operating hours is to check Disney’s official calendars, usually available about six months in advance. Major hours updates–often with later closes or earlier opens–can happen a month before.

These calendars can be found by clicking this link.

hello! LOVE your guidebook with Josh!! We are traveling 8/17-8/26 and have been to WDW many times.Kids 17 & 20. Will have 10 day PHP passes so plan to hop, hit water parks, Disney Springs and have down time in terms of breaks and mornings off. Opted for 10 day pass so we can do our 3 favs even on a ‘down day’. What would your itinerary (ideal parks on which day) look for us? Any input appreciated! Thanks in advance!
