Obviously just speculating on speculation, but what is your sense of the likelihood that the move to QS for the Moderates is going to be permanent going forward?

It makes sense that since the Mods have reduced capacity this year due to construction and refurb, they would want some disincentive this time around. But historically once a recurring offer is reduced in value, that reduction seems to stick. Plus with Pandora opening this year and Star Wars and Toy Story Lands on the horizon, I fear we may finally be seeing the “end” of Free Dining.

Sure, they may keep it around in some form due to its popularity, but effectively they are trying to kill it by requiring PH or WP&M, plus now giving the Mods only the QSDP. Even for a family of 4 or 5 at a Mod, the math has got to start tilting toward a room discount pretty soon, right?

Jeff, Disney will learn from the impact on occupancy of the shift to QSD, and if it’s not material, will continue it at the moderates. And for larger groups with many >9, free QSD is still a pretty good deal, as the chart (from here) notes:

About the best you’ll do on a room rate deal at a moderate will be around $80 night (25% on a Water View Pirate Room at CBR on a regular season weekend) and most families will beat that with QSD even with the hopper requirement…

I was unable to book the free dining room through A of A (Finding Nemo Suite) for 11/25/17-12/02/17, website said room not available. I was able to book room (Nemo Suite) only for those dates. My question is can I add tickets, park hopper, and the free dining at a later date when Disney phone lines are back open? They’ve been busy all day.

Bill, you can’t really “add” free dining to a room only reservation, but you can make a new free dining reservation if one opens up and then cancel your room-only one.

Hi Dave, another question! We booked a bounce back deal and arriving in late August. If the free dining offer in 2018 is very similar to 2017, we just might qualify! However, if we qualify based on dates, would we have to give up the bounce back discount for the free dining? I better start number crunching!

Hey Eric, the general rule is that you can use only one discount, so open up Excel…
