Hi Dave! The calendar on this page is so helpful, combining the essential information for each park for the highlighted week. I have three questions:
1. Do you make similar calendars for each week and are they posted somewhere on your website? I’ve looked around, but can’t find if there is a place on your site where all such weekly calendars are gathered.
2. I am thinking about our first Disney trip next year, May 3-10, 2014. I know Disney doesn’t release calendars until around 6 months in advance. Could I infer anything at all about my chosen travel week by looking at the 2013 calendar for the same week? Or does it vary so much from time to time that it would be a pointless exercise to look at the calendar for May 4-11, 2013? Specifically, I am wondering what days MK and AK will have EMH and if Wishes will be at 9pm on certain nights (I have young kids, who will be 4 and 7 on our travel dates).
3. I’ve read that Disney releases calendars around 6 months in advance, but I am already stressing about how that timing will relate to my 180+10 window for ADRs? Wouldn’t it be nice if Disney released calendars 7 months in advance so people would have that information when they got to their 180 day window? Does the timing usually work out so people can look at the real calendar when making their ADRs?
Thank you in advance SO MUCH! You are the best.

Hi Sarah, and thanks for the kind words!

Your questions in order:

1. I do this calendar every week, but release it only the Friday before–this is because Disney hours change so much. However, as soon as Disney’s six-months-out calendar comes out, I publish suggested itineraries here: https://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-family-trip/basic-itinerary/alternative-itineraries/

2. Your targeted May 2014 dates are far enough away from Easter that yes, you can use the 2013 same week as an initial planning tool (inlcuding my suggested itinerary for that week).

However, I expect Disney’s Fastpass+ program to launch well before then, and it may have now-unpredictable effects on things like EMH etc. So take early May 2013 with a bit of a grain of salt. (For more on FP+, see this: https://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/04/03/my-bet-for-the-go-live-date-for-fastpass-october-1-or-later/ )

3. Yup, 7 months would be better! But the timing of the calendar releases usually works fine except for people on a long trip whose arrival date is that the end of the prior month–e.g. a ten day May trip but beginning April 28 for the time you are targeting. But this can be messed up a bit by things like the 28 day Feb and the number of 30 day months vs 31 day months. In your case, 180 for your target date is 11/4/2013, and the May calendar should be out 11/1…

Hope this helps! And if so…
