DISNEY WORLD AND TROPICAL STORM ISAAC
We’ve entered the peak of the hurricane season, and Tropical Storm Isaac is currently expected to turn into a (mild) hurricane over the next day or so, but is no longer expected to much threaten Central Florida or Orlando.
Update 8/27: Isaac’s track shifted substantially westward on Sunday.
Under current forecasts, Isaac will largely miss Orlando and Walt Disney World, but will bring rain, wind, and the possibility of tornadoes on Monday, with some rain lasting into Tuesday.
For links on Isaac from the Orlando Sentinel, see this.
For thoughts on how to spend a stormy day at Walt Disney World, see this.
WALT DISNEY WORLD 2012 HURRICANE POLICY
Disney World’s hurricane policy can be found here.
Here’s the key point:
“If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area or for your place of residence no more than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date, you may call in advance to reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Magic Your Way vacation package and most room only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney.”
(Thanks to Steve at MilitaryDisneyTips.com for making me aware of this policy!!)
driving down Tuesday night. Excited! Not too worried about the rain…although I haven’t bought ponchos yet

Cynthia, I hope you are driving down 95, and not 75!

We’re currently in Orlando and move to the Boardwalk tomorrow. Everything we’re hearing is that we will get a rainy day, mostly Monday. We’ve got our ponchos and are planning to do the indoor attractions and park hop. Crowds will be down…

Wishing everyone the best of luck for the next week! 🙂 We are not arriving until the 8th, but I still worry about the potential for another one to move in shortly after Issac. BUT, we will not cancel even if it did. We are driving and figure ponchos will get us through! We have been planning this, our 17th Anniversary trip without the kids, since March, so wind, rain or shine we are there! lol 😉

We just cancelled two of our hotels and the other is yet to be cancelled since it’s non-refundable.I’m devastated because we’ve been planning this since June. My heart still wants to go though my husband insisted the opposite.

We are flying into Orlando for WDW early Monday morning. There are 4 adults and a 1 and 3 yr old. We live in Indiana so have no idea what to expect and are undecided about what to do. Even if we decide to brave it are we going to have to put up with rain all week. We don’t leave for home until Saturday. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am traveling on Tuesday Morning. Does anyone think their will be airtravel then?

Oh boy. We are due in on Wednesday with a group of 10 including 5 kids under 8. Hope this doesn’t mess up the air travel too terribly much.

Good luck, Jeff–and I’m traveling to WDW Weds too so I have a personal stake in hoping all turns out well!

I am alittle worried too..Their are 7 of us going to small children and we arrive sat. A thunderstorm we can handle but we have never been through a hurricane and it just sounds bad : (

Good luck, Tara! Even if it hits Orlando dead on, it’ll feel more like a thunderstorm, as Orlando is so far inland…nothing like the classic TV images that are taken along the shore!

i’m starting to worry…we are due in orlando on Sunday afternoon, we’ve had this trip planned since Jan 🙁

I Have my fingers and toes crossed for you, Kristy, (and for me, as I arrive Wednesday!) but still think the worst case is heavy rain. Rain cuts crowds, so it’s not all bad!
