DISNEY MILITARY SALUTE RENEWED FOR ANOTHER FISCAL YEAR

Steve at MilitaryDisneyTips.com has broken the news today that the Disney Military discounts have been renewed for another year, into September 2014.

I’ll update the various material on this site related to this new deal shortly!  But for now–and always for the full details–see Steve’s post and its links here.

Stressing here. We had our rooms booked for a year now. When the military deal was released. we called in time but now I have one room at Theme View and one room Club Lagoon View. These rooms are in completely different buildings. I have called 2x a day to get them both to be Theme View. Nothing. Our trip is in October. When should I panic?

Hi, I’m not sure what to tell you…Disney won’t guarantee connecting or nearby rooms for anyone–though it will try!

What hotel are you in? I’m guessing the Poly, from your comments. The Poly buildings are mostly quite small, not many rooms have views, and only one building has club rooms.

Tell me a little about your family size and ages and what really matters–e.g. would you rather be close to each other but have parking lot views?

I would definitely keep trying, as there are always cancellations. There is always a big rush of reservations when the new AFS comes out, some are just incase and will be cancelled.

Have you tried switching your dates slightly?

Yes it’s Poly. I’d be happy with standard view for both rooms but they say there is nothing but club level left. They said that when I first called too, that the military rate didn’t apply to standard. In one room it would be 2 adults. In the other 2 adult 2 kids age 9 and 4. Unable to change dates due to work schedule.

I have heard similar stories this week. No problem getting the AFS discount on the more expensive rooms, but the rooms that WDW can easily move at full price are hard to get or not at all.

I queried WDW on this Thursday, but haven’t heard back yet.

I know Disney wants to make money, but Club level on a military salary even with the discount can hurt expecially since I am in need of two rooms. I won’t have a lot of spending money left. Steve, I have seen your name everywhere. You are really awesome for all your insight into Disney. I called Ears of Experience and she was most helpful. She said that I should call everyday because my trip is still a month away. Thanks for all your help.

Good luck! There are other much less expensive options than the Poly…are you willing to consider them?

Thanks so much!!!

I love trying to help out our community.

Thanks Steve!

We kind of have are heart set on Polynesian. I just think Disney needs to have a more user friendly way on their website to get the military option. Like right now, I can get the Theme Park room that I want but not the military discount on it. You can’t tell that you can’t get the discount until you call and you’re on hold for 30minutes. And like Steve said it seems they are only offering the more expensive rooms with the discount, which in my opinion ruins the point of the discount. It’s like offering me a discounted Benz when I can’t even afford the Chevy. LOL but I am persistant, I will keep calling.

Still waiting on WDW, all I’ve gotten so far is aa I haven’t forgotten about you email.

I’ll let you know when I hear. But I’m hearing a lot of this, the only discounts being offered are expensive rooms. Yesterday I heard from someone that had to upgrade 3 levels from the room they had reserved at rack rates if they wanted a mil discount…

For now I had them switch my parents theme park room with my club lagoon view room. It saved me $300. But my overall total is still high. Thanks Steve!

Was just told today by reservation specialist that the Poly is completely sold out for the week that we are going.

HELP AGAIN! New to the military life. So I went to the nearest military base to get the Military Salute tix. The rep there said that they only had 2012-2013 available. I told them that we were traveling Oct 3 to Florida. His response is that he couldn’t guarantee that they would have the 2013-2014 Military Salute tix available for sale by then. Am I missing something??!! How do I get the tix then? Shades of Green?

15 Dave { 08.14.13 at 6:52 am }

They should get them befroe the Salute starts, and you can also get them, if needed, at Shades.

16 Steve From MilitaryDisneyTips.com - YourFirstVisit.net Military Moderator { 08.15.13 at 4:51 am }

Hey there,

This is something I keep hearing, that the various bases won’t have the Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets till after 1 Oct. I haven’t tried to get mine yet.

Not to worry, You can get them at Shades once you get there, perhaps the afternoon you arrive. Or you can always just get them direct from a Disney ticket booth with 6.5% sales tax added.

Have fun, I’ll be there through the 4th!

17 Dave { 08.15.13 at 7:43 am }

Thanks, Steve!! I’ll edit my comment to take out the wrong date reference!

18 SGT WIFE { 10.22.13 at 1:26 pm }

We had a great trip! We did have to go to Shades to get the tix. For some reason, the base didn’t get them. Not sure if the government shutdown had something to do with it or not. The Magic Bands (which we helped pilot) had a lot of glitches for us. It appears that’s because we had the military tix seperate. For non-tech people it is going to be a challenge for them to use the APP, and make sure all of their reservations, tickets etc are on the band. I REALLY REALLY hope that Disney extends the discount again next year. Halloween was awesome! Now I want to see how they do Christmas!

Yay! And thanks for the update!
