EMH Changes Require Updates to Itineraries Most Of September through Mid-November

By Dave Shute

Disney World did something very rare–it changed Evening Extra Magic Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios from Monday to Sunday many dates from early September through mid-November.

As a result, those Sundays are now lousy days to go to the Studios, and below are the suggested changes to the FastPass+ Lower Crowd Itinerary and To-Do List for the entire period–the new changes, the changes that already existed, and weeks where no changes are need:

  • For an August 30, 2014 arrival date swap Tuesday and Second Saturday, and also Monday and Thursday
  • For a September 6 arrival date—no changes
  • For September 13 through October 4 arrival dates swap First Sunday and Tuesday
  • For an October 11 arrival date swap Tuesday and Thursday
  • For October 18 through November 1 arrival dates swap first Sunday and Tuesday
  • For a November 8 arrival date–no changes
  • For a November 15 arrival date swap the first Sunday and Tuesday, and also Monday and Thursday

If you’ve made dining reservations that you can’t re-do, the “Sunday-Tuesday” swaps can be left ignored. Just expect to be able to complete less at Hollywood Studios on Sunday, and as a result to perhaps need to arrive there earlier on Thursday to catch what you missed.

Hi Dave,

I see that Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close at 7:00pm most nights the weeks of November 9th and November 17th. How does this affect the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights? Last year I believer this started on November 8th. We missed this by a week last year.

I read rumors that this might be moved to Epcot. I cannot imagine that happening with the Food and Wine Festival there.

Scott I expect that HS hours will be extended to 8p those weeks, as they were last year. I’ve heard several different rumors about Osborne too, but can’t find anything I trust…

Hey, Dave-

Where do you get your park hours from? On the WDW site I can only get park hours up until mid October right now. I’m wanting to plan out our dining for our November trip and would like to use the park hours as a guide in planning. I also want to look at the possibilities for an “off” day and know which days MVMCP will be. We have base tickets and are only going to MK this trip, so I’m not too worried about which parks to visit when, just how to schedule everything when it comes to dining, taking a break, and our “park attack” plans based on our “must do” list. Thanks!

Dave,

Thanks as always.

Happy Easter to you and your family.

Dave,

I was looking at the calendar for November and am surprised to see that Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close at 4:00pm on November 20. That coupled with the early closing of the Magic Kingdom that day for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and the early closing at Animal Kingdom sure limits options for that day.

Scott, yeah…Epcot and AK will be pretty crowded that day! And BTW thanks–I hadn’t noticed that yet, and it’s a problem (now fixed) since I send people to HS on Thursdays for Fantasmic!

Was reading your site and noted this to share with others in the fb planning group but everyone seemed to think this was not a change just SOP. Although a WDW veteran I enjoy your site. What am I missing?

9 Dave { 04.27.14 at 8:57 am }

Hi Emelee, what happened was that the original calendars were unusual, and the revised calendars made the weeks revert to being typical of this period. So all that’s different is that people using my standard itinerary need to make changes after the revision that they didn’t need to make when the calendars first came out…

Dave,
Why do you suppose MK is closing at 7pm on Monday November 17th with no MVMCP scheduled? It would seem odd that there would be no nighttime entertainment and a 7pm closing at MK and no other parks having EMH in the evening. Do you think they might add a party here or extend MK hours?

11 Dave { 04.28.14 at 8:14 am }

Shari, I’m forecasting there will be a MVMCP that night–see https://yourfirstvisit.net/2014/04/13/mickeys-very-merry-christmas-party-mvmcp-in-2014/

Dave, you truly have a wealth of info on this site. My husband and I are planning our trip to WDW and by what I have read I think we did not plan timely. This will be my first trip and the second for hubby but it was over 30 yrs ago for him, btw he is retired. No kids with us and no need for character meals or meet and greets. Using your calendar I think 10/18-26/14 is a good time for us we do not need to spend all day every day at a park would like a little relaxing and maybe even WWOHP:-) What would you suggest? Realizing this is a kids paradise we would like to enjoy an adult version. Thanks,

Thank you Dave, the itineraries are helpful. I believe we would opt for different choices than the character meals I’m not sure what these are but I expect it is where kids can meet the characters. One of the areas I would like help with is which resort, probably in the moderate level, would be a good choice for 2 adults?

15 Dave { 05.07.14 at 12:31 pm }

AW–for a couple, Port Orleans French Quarter. For friends, Coronado Springs. Reviews of both are linked to from here: https://yourfirstvisit.net/2010/04/26/walt-disney-world-resort-hotel-reviews/

My family (3 boys 5, 8, and 10) will be at WDW, arriving 5 pm on November 8th and departing noon on Friday, November 14th. We are attending MVMCP on the 13th. We would like to view the Electrical parade. With that in mind, which parks would you recommend for which days? Thanks!

17 Dave { 10.09.14 at 8:24 am }

DA, I’d go to MK the evening of the 8th for the parade and fireworks–it’ll be crowded

The 9th avoid AK
The 10th avoid HS
The 11th avoid Epcot
The 12th avoid AK
The 13th, if you don’t take the day off, consider AK–you can see the park and still have a break befroe you go to MVMCP.

Hi Dave, we want to stay in disney for 2 nights 2 parks and then head to Universal on third day…rent caar from there to head to Daytona (we have place to stay there.) Would we look for a pkg/ticket combo for Pop or AofA…park hopper? Best place to rent a car…would they deliver to universal?

19 Dave { 10.10.14 at 7:22 am }

Andie, I dunno about Universal, but the WDW on-site rental car offering will pick you up at your WDW hotel and drive you to its rental base near MK. That way you can use the rental to get to Universal… See this: https://yourfirstvisit.net/2012/02/28/renting-a-car-at-walt-disney-world/ and also this https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/car-rental-services/
