The Sailor is Home from the Sea
By Dave Shute
Just a note that I’ll be quiet here for a while, as my Dad–to whom I owe everything–passed away yesterday.
This is him during the Korean War, when he was younger than my sons are today…
…and he’s behind the camera–as he usually was–in this shot of my sister and me at Disneyland. We were with him when he died.
His obituary is here.
I will keep up with the comments as best I can, but may be a little slower than usual. And other than the “Next Week at Disney World” and “Fridays with Jim Korkis” series, I won’t be posting much on the site for a couple of weeks.

I am so sorry for your loss, Dave. One of my favorite things on your site has always been reading about your Disney experiences with your Dad, and the special relationship you shared always came shining through. Thoughts are with you and your family.
Dave, it is with heart felt sadness that I read about your dad. I am so sorry for your loss, I too have lost my dad (and mom) so I know the struggle. My thoughts are with you in your sadness.
Dave- So sorry for your loss…May your memories provide you peace and comfort during this difficult time. I, too, share many memories of WDW with my father and I think that is why I love it so. I always enjoyed your posts about your dad and the heartfelt sentiment that always shined through. What a beautiful legacy…God’s blessings of peace, strength, and comfort to you and yours.
You and your family are in my and Tracy’s thoughts brother!
Thinking of you and yours.
Dave, I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
Thanks, everybody…
So sorry to hear. Condolences to you and your family.
Dave, I just read the obituary. What a fabulous and long life your father lead. He will certainly be remembered by many for his contributions to family life, the medical field and the armed forces.
You are lucky to have years of amazing memories to draw comfort from in the next few days.
I’m glad that you got the chance to be with him at the end. That is such a blessing for him and you.
With our faith comes the hope in Christ that we will all see each other again in glory!
God richly blessed you with a father who taught you lessons about hard work, service, sacrifice and love.
God be with you and your family while you mourn his loss and celebrate his life.
Dave, praying for you and your family.
