Hi Dave, I am seeing a lot of rain in the forecast for our trip. Having not been before (except a 1985 visit that almost doesn’t count) I don’t know what to expect. It seems that most rides and dining are “inside,” esp. at MK. Is that correct? I’ve heard that AK is terrible in the rain b/c it is mostly outside, but things we FP like the Lion King show are indoors, are they not? Thanks!

Jane, rain does not much matter. It’s not “terrible” in the rain at AK–there’s a lot of walking at AK–as there is at Epcot–so whatever impact the rain has in increased at those two parks, but “terrible” is a gross overstatement.

Some combination of a poncho, baseball cap and umbrella will do you just fine–plus footwear that won’t blister you when it gets wet. See this for more–it’s about summer, so ignore the “warm” bits… https://yourfirstvisit.net/2012/08/26/walt-disney-world-summer-rain/

I’m finding this thread way after the fact, but for those doing the same, look for “work shoes” at Walmart or any similar retailer. I have some Croc-like chef shoes with a non-skid fabric on the bottom that would be great for Disney on a rainy day!

We always pick up a couple on ponchos from the dollar store at home before we leave for Disney World, while Disney World does sell ponchos in the parks, the prices are quite pricey and a poncho or two will not take up any room in your backpack or bag throughout the day!

My friend Tami from the Magical Blogorail notes that “Any rubber-soled sports sandal is awesome…Chaco, Teva, & Keen are the most common brands in my neck of the woods.”

Personally I have found the Crocs to be very slippery on wet pavement. Can anyone recommend a good non slip shoe for a rainy day at Disney?

ElCid, that’s a great point. I’ll add it above… I’ve not had such an issue with brand-new Crocs, but their treads wear very quickly…
