CURRENT WALT DISNEY WORLD JANUARY 2011 RIDE CLOSURES
This site suggests that first time visitors to Walt Disney World who may never return avoid January and early February, as this is the most common time for rides to be closed for repair and rehab. For more, see this.
On any typical January day, 3 rides are closed on average—for the details, see this.
In January 2011, there are a few more ride closures than usual.
The following rides (so far) will be closed for repair or rehab in January:
Magic Kingdom:
- Splash Mountain closed 1/3-1/31
- Liberty Belle riverboat closed 1/29-2/4
- The afternoon Celebrate a Dream Come True parade is not on the January park calendar after 1/1–it returns to the schedule 2/1.
This may be a schedule error, as I have not heard about it taking the month off.
On the other hand, Wishes is on the January calendar at more than twice its common January frequency–it’s showing on the schedule on every single night except January 18, when the park closes at 6p–so maybe there’s something to this (parade off, but more Wishes as a recompense to the attendees).
If you notice the parade being back on the January calendar before I do, let me know using the comment form below!
Hollywood Studios:
- The afternoon parade will not show between 1/2 and 1/15, while it is being added to and renamed
- Studio Backlot Tour closed 1/3-1/29
- Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground closed 1/3-1/29
- Playhouse Disney closed 1/30 to 3/5
Epcot: No known closures
Animal Kingdom:
- Kali River Rapids closed 1/3-1/29
- Primeval Whirl closed 1/17-4/5
