CHANGES AND UPDATES

July 6, 2014

All changes noted will be reflected in Kindles shortly:

Page 16: rates are now $15 an hour

Page 45:  With MK EMH being mostly moved to Saturdays, this section should now read as follows:

At least one park offers Extra Magic Hours virtually every day, with the most common schedule (after June 2014 changes) being:

Sunday: Animal Kingdom morning
Monday: Hollywood Studios evening
Tuesday: Epcot morning
Wednesday: Animal Kingdom morning
Thursday: Magic Kingdom morning
Friday: Epcot evening
Saturday: Hollywood Studios morning, Magic Kingdom evening

Seasonal or special events may alter the schedule slightly, so always check the park calendars. Most notably:

    • During Star Wars Weekends from the middle of May to the middle of June, Hollywood Studios offers morning EMH on Wednesday, and the Animal Kingdom morning EMH moves from then to Saturday.
    • During the Food and Wine Festival from mid-September to early November, Epcot offers evening EMH on Wednesdays, and Animal Kingdom moves its Wednesday morning EMH to Fridays.
    • During the Mickey’s Party Season from early September to mid-December, Hollywood Studios evening EMH nights often shift to Sundays, and Mondays are commonly Magic Kingdom evening EMH nights

TYPOS, ERRORS AND SUCH

Paperback and Kindle typos (Kindle typos will be fixed shortly)

  • The left side header in the table of contents (and some of the book’s Amazon listings) have the title as “The easy Guide to Your First Walt Disney World Vacation.”  That last word should be “Visit”!!
  • On page 6, the header of the example AK plan should be “FastPass+,” not “Fastpass+”
  • On page 7 and elsewhere, e.g. page 226, T-Rex should be all caps, and we should have said “Whispering Canyon Cafe, not “Whispering Canyon”–also on page 195 and 239
  • The published version of the “Comprehensive Guide to Rides” on page 12 lists the afternoon parade at the Animal Kingdom. This parade had its last run at the end of May. The larger online color version is corrected: Comprehensive Guide to Rides.
  • Page 15: Should have been “between 3 and 12, except for Camp Dolphin, between 4 and 12”
  • Also on 15, should have been “Disney’s Beach…” rather than “Disney Beach…”
  • Page 21 should have caps in “chapter six.”
  • I had a little dyslexia on page 43–DDRA is at the far southeast corner, not northeast
  • On page 64, periods snuck in and offed what should have been commas in “You can. of course. walk to the…”
  • Page 65 should read “Two are on the first floor…” Not “Three…”
  • On page 73, I made a typo I make all the time for some reason–“Captain Cook’s,” not “Captain Jacks”
  • Page 77 should be “quickly fade,” not “quickly fades”
  • More dyslexia on page 81: “southeast corner,” not “southwest corner”
  • Page 112–the entry is between UK and France, not Canada and France
  • Page 124–the pavilion title should be “Morocco Pavilion”
  • On page 163 in “warnings” replace Pizzafari with Flame Tree Barbecue
  • Page 182 has a sentence with an extra period at the end
  • Page 196 should have included Minnie as a character at Chef Mickey’s
  • On 200 there’s a “cause” that should be “causes”
  • In the discussion of alcohol at BOG on 219,  “to order” should be “to offer”
  • On 252, it should be “Club,” not “Clubs.”

Kindle-only typos

  • Location 364: We lost the “an” in “Disney vets use an…”
  • Location 839: lost the space between “Nemo” and “that”
  • Location 1281: “first” lost its “i”
  • Location 2651: “Friar’s Nook” lost its “F”
  • Location 2918: replace “red” with “dark”
  • Location 4029: superfluous comma and space after “darkness”
  • Location 4700: mystery dashes added at three spots
  • Location 4718: A little more generic than I’d like…

I really enjoyed reading the book with excellent planning tips for theme parks, tickets, crowd control, resorts, and dining options. The only thing I found lacking was planning tips to the water parks and DisneyQuest. Will this book be updated every year and updated for kindle?

2 Dave { 06.21.14 at 3:55 pm }

Hi Matthew and thanks! The kindle version will be updated, and if enough people find the 2014 book valuable, we will publish a 2015 edition as well! We left many minor things out to keep the book both short and with a large font…

Thank you for the quick response!
I have two more questions:
The first is if the 2014 book is found valuable, will a new edition be publish annually or even every other year?
The second is if the new edition is publish – will the “many minor things” be included in the next edition?
Thank you!

4 Dave { 06.23.14 at 8:38 am }

Matthew, on the first question the hope would be every year, and on the second, we are more likely to expand the core material–e.g. with more resort floor plans, just a little more “flavor” on dining, etc. For those who want details on everything, I recommend The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2014. Part of The easy Guide being easy is being short, and a key to being short is to limit what we cover…
