February 2017 at Walt Disney World from

This page reviews February 2017 Walt Disney World crowds, prices, deals and discounts, weather, and operating hours; adds a few other notes; and ends with week by week summaries.

Early February 2017 will have some of the lowest crowds and prices of the year, but also the risk of ride closures.

The end of the month brings slightly higher prices and crowds, but better weather and few closures.

In between–in 2017, the period from Thursday the 16th through Saturday the 25th–we will see high crowds and high prices.

Earlier February is among the lowest crowd periods of the year.

From a combination of a dance competition, President’s Day (many northeastern school weeks have the whole week off), and a running event, crowds will be high from Thursday the 16th through Saturday the 25th.

Crowds will settle down after the 25th to low levels until the spring break crowds begin March 11.

On a crowd scale of 1-11, the week beginning 1/28 has a ranking of 2/lower, 2/4 1/lowest, 2/11 5/moderate (lower at the beginning of the week, higher later), 2/18 10 higher, and 2/25 4/low+.

See this for more on 2017 crowds at Disney World.

February hotel prices begin the month at their lowest levels of the year.

On 2/16 prices increase to 20% to 45% higher than the lowest of the year.

On 2/26, prices decrease to 15% to 25% higher than the lowest of the year.

See this for more on 2017 resort hotel prices at Walt Disney World.

Deals are available for February 2017. Find them here.

February weather is cooler and variable.

Typical temperatures warm up over the course of the month, but variability remains high.

Cold or rainy days—not uncommon—are great for first time visitors, as they reduce the crowds in the parks and make the rides easier to see with low waits.

Returning visitors looking for good days to lounge around the pool should not count on many.

Tornadoes can be an issue during this period.  See this.

January and, to a lesser extent, the first part of February are the most common periods for rides to be closed for refurbishment.

This makes these dates less good for first time visitors who do not know if they will return—why go when the chances of missing something great are high?

Park operating hours vary by the day, and sometimes change without notice. It is rare for hours to be shorter than Disney has publicized, but Disney may lengthen them in response to unanticipated crowds.

The best way to keep up with operating hours is to check Disney’s official calendars, usually available six months in advance.

These calendars can be found by clicking the following links:

Dave, your site is AMAZING and so helpful! We are staying at the Polynesian and bringing our two children, ages 5 and 8, for 4 nights, 3 days on Feb 5, 2017. I have reviewed your longer itineraries for low crowd times. Can you provide any insight on dividing parks between only 3 days for young children? I had planned on 1 day MK, 1/2 day AK with 1/2 day Epcot, then maybe full day Hollywood studios. Does this seem like good use of our time? I would also like to work in dining experiences such as Be Our Guest and Cinderellas Royal Table. Thanks!

Hi Leigh, I don’t have anything on this site that will help, but you will find help in my book.

Thanks for all the info Dave, great work. I’m going to be there feb 04 – feb 12 2017, when does clousures or refurbishments on rides dates will come out? Do you have any info for this dates as of today? Thanks again!!!

4 Dave { 08.10.16 at 4:18 pm }

Alfonso, the closures typically are out by about 6 weeks before a visit.

5 Debbie Kutner { 08.14.16 at 3:24 pm }

If you have time to help! Not a first timer, but planning this next trip is different than the others. I am a senior visiting WDW with my adult daughter (mildly disabled) in February 2017. I hope to reserve three nights at a Ft. Wilderness campsite, but will only have two days in the park. Probably will get park hoppers and still end up skipping one of the parks (we’ll see!)

My problem is: making a choice between these dates. Feb. 7-10 (in parks on 8th & 9th) and Feb. 15-17 (in parks on 16th and 17th). Here are my considerations:

1. Closing times at each park: fairly similar for both choices
2. Crowds: looks as there there may be a major difference between them
3. Availability of attractions: Can’t find specifics, but mostly interested in newer things since our last visit in 2013
4. Prices: I haven’t been able to determine any differences in campsite or park tickets .
5. Special offers: I’ve seldom seen any special offers for Ft. Wilderness or for visits this short. Free dining plan? Would love that, but unlikely!

I’d love to know what your opinion of those two date options would be.
Thanks for all you do!!!

Debbie, President’s Day crowds begin to be very heavy the evening of the Thursday before Presidents Day–2/16 in 2017–so your earlier dates are much better.

Campsites are generally excluded from room rate deals, and there’s been no free dining before August for years…and campsite are excluded from free dining too!

Finally, because more than 10,000 people visit this site every day, I’ve edited out your phone number…

I was looking at coming down 2/8-2/12, but rooms seem really limited, with no value resorts available and only 1-2 Moderate. Is there an event that weekend? Something else going on?

8 Dave { 01.12.17 at 4:59 pm }

Kate the Disney resorts have been operating for a while now at a year-round 85-90% occupancy–so the average room is booked 8-9 out of ten nights. Since most people book ~3 months out, it can be very hard to find a room–especially over a weekend, when occupancy is even higher–on short notice.

9 noah { 01.18.17 at 8:48 am }

is a good idea go to a disney park on february 24th?

10 Dave { 01.19.17 at 7:59 am }

Noah, the parks will still be seeing crowds from President’s Day vacations then, and MK and HS will be particularly crowded.

11 Dack { 01.19.17 at 6:14 pm }

We will be down February 8-10th, just my wife and I. I have looked at several crowd calendars to get a feel for the levels that week. I’ve noticed that while you have this week as the lowest or one of the lowest of the year, some sites have the crowd levels up as high as a 5 or 6 out of 10. Even Josh’s crowd calendar has one of these days as high as a 6. Is there any way to really get a feel for what the crowds will be like? Or is it just one person’s opinion based on previous years and experience?
Keep in mind that I do understand that low crowds does not mean no crowds. I appreciate any feedback or thoughts you have on this.

12 Dave { 01.21.17 at 6:21 am }

Dack, there’s not much merit in comparing individual ratings across crowd calendars, as because of different distributions (Josh has more 5s, Touring Plans has fewer, I have by far the least) “4” does not mean the same thing other than worse than 3 and better than 5, and there’s always a one or two point uncertainty anyway–aggravated by picking a park on a predictably bad day. Rather, you need to compare dates within a calendar’s own numbers. If you look at Fridays in Feb in Josh’s calendar, they are typically the second highest weekday (after Mondays) and his 6 for your dates is one of the lowest Fridays in Feb and for him “slightly above average” whereas I class average weeks as “Low.”

All of which is to say your dates are fine, tho because of EMH patterns the only great day at MK is Thursday.

13 Dack { 01.21.17 at 12:02 pm }

Thank you! You are (as always) amazing. I was actually a little nervous asking this question, because I didn’t want you to think I didn’t trust your numbers. Truth be told, I value your reviews and information at a 10 and other sites at a 5 max. I really appreciate your response and the amount of time and effort you put into this site!

14 Jenn { 01.24.17 at 9:59 am }

Hi Dave,
Thinking of booking a last minute trip for the week of 2/12/17 if I can take advantage of a special offer. Not too concerned about not getting dining reservations since we will do almost all quick service. However, I’m worried about fast pass availability at this point!! What do you think? Will there still be some available? We’ve been to Magic Kingdom a few times, and Epcot and Hollywood Studios each one time, but it would be our 1st time visiting Animal Kingdom. Do you think I could still get fast passes for Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safari, and Festival of the Lion King on Mon, Tues, or Wed of that week?
Thanks so much,

15 Dave { 01.25.17 at 8:01 am }

Jenn, yes you should do fine except perhaps Monday, if you move pretty quickly…
