OVERVIEW: FEBRUARY 2015 AT DISNEY WORLD

February 2015 at Walt Disney World from yourfirstvisit.netThis page reviews February 2015 Walt Disney World crowds, prices, deals and discounts, weather, and operating hours; adds a few other notes; and ends with week by week summaries.

Early February 2015 will have some of the lowest crowds and prices of the year, but also the risk of ride closures.

The end of the month brings slightly higher prices and crowds, but better weather and few closures.

In between–the period from Thursday the 12th through Sunday the 22nd–we will see high crowds and high prices.

FEBRUARY 2015 CROWDS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Earlier February is among the lowest crowd periods of the year.

From a combination of a dance competition, President’s Day (many northeastern school weeks have the whole week off), Mardi Gras (which a few school districts have off) and a running event, crowds will be high from Thursday the 12th through Sunday the 22nd.

Crowds will settle down after the 22nd to low levels until the spring break crowds begin March 7.

On a crowd scale of 1-11, the week beginning 1/31 has a ranking of 1/lowest; the week beginning 2/7, a ranking of 3/low (lower earlier in the week, higher later); 2/14 11/highest; 2/21  4/low-plus.

FEBRUARY 2015 PRICES AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

February hotel prices begin the month at their lowest levels of the year.

On 2/12 they will increase to 50% higher than the lowest of the year at the values, 30% higher at the moderates, and 35% higher at the deluxes.

On 2/22 they drop to 30% higher than the lowest of the year at the values, 17% higher at the moderates, and 15% higher at the deluxes.

FEBRUARY 2015 WEATHER AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

February weather is cooler and variable. Typical temperatures warm up over the course of the month, but variability remains high.

Cold, rainy days—not uncommon—are great for first time visitors, as they reduce the crowds in the parks and make the rides easier to see with low waits.

Returning visitors looking for good days to lounge around the pool should not count on many.

Tornadoes can be an issue during this period.  See this.

OTHER NOTES AND COMMENTS ON FEBRUARY 2015 AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Early February is one of the more common periods for rides to be closed for refurbishment.

This makes the first half of the month less good for first time visitors who do not know if they will return—why go when the chances of missing something great are high?

FEBRUARY 2015 OPERATING HOURS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Park operating hours vary by the day, and sometimes change without notice. It is rare for hours to be shorter than Disney has publicized, but Disney may lengthen them in response to unanticipated crowds.

The best way to keep up with operating hours is to check Disney’s official calendars, usually available six months in advance.

These calendars can be found by clicking the following links:

We went in mid Feb. of 2013 and it was more crowded than I’ve ever seen. Mardi Gras people were everywhere. Never again. We enjoy an empty park even if it means a few rides are closed.

Yeah, Mardi Gras is not normally a major crowd driver, but that year it was tw0 days before the President’s Day crowds started pouring in…
