By Dave Shute

Update 5/9/13: This deal is now out! See this.

The mysterious “B” (a different person than the mysterious ”J”) just messaged me that travel agents are beginning to receive their informational packets for “September free dining” at Walt Disney World…

Dave,
I love reading the “free dining rumours”. If the rumour is free dining for September, what about the weeks of August 14-31? The current summer deal ends August 14th, so do discounts usually pop up for those last 2 weeks of August too? Love your site!!!

2 Dave { 05.02.13 at 7:03 am }

Hi Cathy, no recent rumors on the late Augsut free dining…

3 Chad { 05.02.13 at 1:13 pm }

I heard these rumors as well with the dates being Sept 2 – 25th. Anyone else hearing this? We arrive on the 28th (of course) and may be missing out on the free dining.

Hi, Dave.
Thanks for all you do do to keep us well informed of all things Disney parks related. Has the “mysterious B” any information if there will be a choice for “September Free Dining” or for a discount off the room rack rate as I have seen several times in the past ? I usually find that the percent off the room rate has been a better deal than the free dining, as we tend to prefer the Polynesian Resort.

Chad all the “stuff” I have is indicating September too…

6 Dave { 05.03.13 at 7:16 am }

Hi Paul, nothing on that from “B”, but “J” has indicated a hint to that–see this: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/04/26/more-hints-about-augustseptember-disney-world-discounts/

what do you think the odds are of free dining the 1st 2 wks of dec? planning a 12 day trip to AoA suites and REALLY hoping for free QS dining that we can upgrade.

8 Jeff C { 05.05.13 at 8:00 pm }

If they do indeed pony up with free dining, do you know of they typically retro it for folks that are already booked for September? Or just for folks that book during the booking window?

9 Goofy { 05.06.13 at 11:45 am }

Jeff, I have already booked for September as well and I was told by a Disney rep that I would be able to apply any promotions/discounts released later to my reservation.

10 Dave { 05.06.13 at 12:16 pm }

Alli, I doubt it will happen–see this for why: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/02/07/2013-free-dining-mymagic-implications-disneys-q1-2013-earnings-call/

It’s out for Disney Visa Card Holders!! We’ve already upgraded our reservation from Pop Century to Coronado Springs (Adults only trip)! Available to general public on the 9th.

13 Jeff C { 05.06.13 at 11:31 pm }

Thanks Dave! And good news, as a Disney Visa holder, I called this morning and had no problem adding the free dining to our plans. Yay!

14 Denise Noelle { 05.07.13 at 8:47 am }

How often does Disney have FREE dining during February?

We have been to Disney in September, October and first week of December. We are thinking of trying the FIRST week of February. Leaving before the Presidents day rush. We would like your thoughts on going this time of year?

15 Dave { 05.07.13 at 9:13 am }

Yay!

16 Dave { 05.07.13 at 9:23 am }

Yay, Jeff!!

17 Dave { 05.07.13 at 9:28 am }

Denise, there was none then in 2013 (either than for the UK) and I don’t expect to see any then in 2014. There’s been a ton of it in the years befroe 2013, but Disney by policy is cutting way back on discounts, with free dining seeming to be at the head of the list…

I booked 3 rooms in the contemporary for Oct.14-18. It includes: a dining plan (the one with one meal) and park hopper tickets. Traveling will be 6 adults, 3 children,it’s costing me a fortune, esp with airfare.
Do you recommend insurance? Do you have any idea about discounts?? Thanks so much for any help/info you can give.

19 April { 05.14.13 at 8:01 pm }

Got our free disney dining for week of November 11th. We got an e-mail last Friday 5/10 with a special pin # and after an awfully long wait time we were able to book :) 12 of us all together with some first timers!!! so excited!

20 Rosemary Davidson { 05.15.13 at 5:31 am }

I am arriving at Disney Old Key West on 20th September. Booking was made through RCI timeshare in South Africa. Would we qualify for the Dining plans at all if it is a timeshare booking? Dining plan would make it so much easier for me travelling alone with three kids!!!

21 Dave { 05.15.13 at 6:51 am }

That’s great, April!!

Rosemary, the DVC resorts, if visited on points–which is how I’m guessing you did this–are not eligible for free dining.

23 Christine { 05.15.13 at 10:48 am }

I am booked for October 9-14 and was told by disney, to add the dining plan (which i did) that way it would be removed when the free dining plan became available…. now I am getting nervous that its not coming :/. any insight??

24 Dave { 05.16.13 at 8:02 am }

Well, Christine, personally I doubt we’ll see free dining in October. See this for why: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/05/08/mymagic-and-free-dining-in-2013-inferences-from-the-q2-disney-earnings-call/

April, I am checking in Nov 13 – 19th… how did you get a Nov 11th free dining?? Any advice is much appreciated!
Thanks!

26 Susan { 05.17.13 at 12:56 pm }

It’s my understanding that they are direct mailing promotion pins to people. I’ve been checking my mailbox every day praying for one!!!! We arrive Nov 15.

27 Dave { 05.19.13 at 7:12 am }

Oh, thank, Susan–I didn’t know about regular mail!

Hi Jessica, we got a email From: Disney Destinations with the subject line of :Special Disney dining offer for you it included a special pin # and we called immediately. Don’t give up hope!

29 Barbara { 05.19.13 at 7:35 pm }

Dave, I received my 15 digit pin via email from Disney and was able to take advantage of the free dining. I have read on other Disney related blogs that emails/mailings are being sent randomly.

30 Dave { 05.20.13 at 8:54 am }

:)

31 Dave { 05.20.13 at 8:56 am }

Great, Barbara!! Yup that’s what they are saying! But I’m not sure I believe it…see this and the comments on it: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/05/17/you-may-have-a-free-dining-pin-code-for-walt-disney-world-even-if-you-dont/

I made a reservation for Ohana for November BC we have never been able to Go. Did not book a room BC was hoping to get a deal. Today I received a pin # in mail for free dining.

33 Dave { 06.02.13 at 8:08 am }

:)

34 Tskillet { 06.11.13 at 8:40 am }

I got the pin code as well. When i called to add the promotion they would not give it to me the entire length of my trip. We are arriving Nov 8 and because the promotion starts November 11th they would not give it to us for those extra days. So i am only getting it for a few days of my trip. I know normally they do let you use it the entire length but this time they are not because the 8-10th is blacked out for any free dining. (this is what they told me at least). If anyone hears anything different please let me know.

35 AJ { 06.11.13 at 4:46 pm }

So I called Disney today to find out if a PIN was attached to my account. There wasn’t one. However, I explained that I have a trip booked for December and will have to cancel it if a discount isn’t offered during my travel dates. She looked at the dates I am planning on traveling and told me to hold for a moment. She then told me to keep my eyes open around mid to late August. She expects Free Dining to be released to the general public for dates similar to the ones on the PIN’s that have been being sent out. So hopefully, she is right and we can look forward to more Dining discounts!!! :)

36 Dave { 06.12.13 at 7:27 am }

Thanks for the news Tracy! They are pretty strict about arrival dates…

Hi dave. Staying at POR Oct 23 -28 this fall. Saw the FD offer this morning and after an hr and 20 min on hold was told there wasn’t any availability at POR. I could switch to CB or CS but I didn’t know a lot about those resorts and we were really looking forward to POR. W we like the resort theming and the access to DTD by boat. First visit to disney for me and my two kids ages 6 and 9 and my husband hasn’t been in 20 yrs. What do you think? Should we switch?

41 Dave { 08.01.13 at 3:38 pm }

Loran, if it were me, I’d switch. Depending on my mood, CB or CSR would be my first choice–CB for the theming, CSR for the overall amenities and greater convenience compared to CB. For version 1, see this and its links http://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/03/25/walt-disney-worlds-moderate-resorts/ and for the seocnd see this: http://yourfirstvisit.net/2013/03/28/the-moderates-remix/

DTD is not that big a deal on first visits, and the boat is really slow—and in the evening has long lines…
