New Disney World Package Deal for Early 2013: Not Free Dining, But Not Nothin’ Neither

DISNEY WORLD PACKAGE DEAL FOR EARLY JANUARY THROUGH EARLY MARCH
Walt Disney World announced two deals yesterday, one a discount on room rates of 15-35% (see this) and the other a package deal promising savings at, in Disney’s example, around $125 a night at eligible moderate resorts and about $80 a night at eligible value resorts.
The package deal requires purchase of tickets and the Dining Plan, while the room rate deal does not. It covers many hotels and most arrival dates from January 2 through March 7, and has to be booked by 12/31.
This site’s most highly recommended deluxe and value resorts–the Polynesian and the Little Mermaid rooms in Art of Animation–are not eligible for the deal.
While every family ought to test both deals to see which gives them a lower number, for those who would be buying the dining plan and tickets anyway, the package looks to have much better savings for moderates and values, while the room rate discount will be better for many at deluxes.
The package deal savings aren’t as good as a free dining deal, but they aren’t bad.

in your opinion, do you think Disney will discontinue the “free dining plan” from now on? I have some friends who want to go to WDW but are looking forward to taking advantage of this alternative. Any impressions you may provide? Will it migrate to a new room discount option?
Tom it’s become such a tradition for late August-September that I won’t predict it’s gone until it’s gone for those weeks. For all I know it’ll come back tomorrow….However, so long as we don’t fall into another recession, Disney will continue to cut back on the discount levels it offered during the worst of the hard times…
